Red Cross Gala: CHF 604,000 donated to mothers and children in need during the charity auction in Zurich on June 22nd.

Improving quality of life is the key concern for the Swiss Red Cross (SRC). The organisation finances different health projects in 18 countries, helping millions in need. In many countries, mothers and children still have no access to medical treatments or any health care for that matter. Furthermore, pregnancy is still life-threatening for millions of women in developing countries. The absence of basic things like clean drinking water and food as well as lack of medical staff and vaccinations, strike children’s health and make them vulnerable to diseases.

during THE charity auction IN THE HAUS AM SEE IN ZURICH, CHF 604,000 WERE DONATED FOR THE MOTHER-CHILD PROGRAMS OF THE SRC.

Approximately 200 guests were invited to the dinner. Among them, were celebrities such as Mark Streit, Dominique Gisin, Nubya and Iqbal Khan. For the first time, the event took place in the beautiful Haus am See, directly on Lake Zurich. The elegant design of the venue fitted very well with the graceful atmosphere of the evening. Annemarie Huber-Hotz, the president of SCR, gave inspiring and thankful speech to everyone participating. Being a strong woman, a daughter, a mother and a grandmother, she knows first hand how important these programs are. After an exciting and successful auction, guests could whirl in uplifting rhythms of Loco Escrito and DJ Antoine.

    Healthy children need strong mothers.

With the net profit from the charity gala, the Swiss Red Cross finances mother-child programs, improving access to health care, for example by training midwives or mobile health stations. Another important part of the programs is family planning and education for mothers in matters of nutrition and infant care.

I was delighted to attend this important event. As a medical doctor, I consider it as a way to bring real help and support to women during pregnancy and childbirth. As a media representative, I have a chance to drive further awareness and knowledge about  these programs.

More information about the Swiss Red Cross programs and donations you can always find on its official website.
